About Four Rivers Healthy Community
Who We Are
Four Rivers Healthy Community (4RHC) is a nonprofit organization that has served the Western Treasure Valley of Oregon and Idaho since 2003. We bring together community partners — nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities, and individuals — to strengthen health, education, livability, and leadership across the region.

Our History
2003 — Founded with funding from Catholic Health Initiatives to establish a community health coalition. Stakeholder Summits in 2003 and 2004 focused attention on the environment, learning, business, and economic development across the Western Treasure Valley.
2005 — Achieved 501(c)3 nonprofit status.
2008 — Launched the Four Rivers Community Garden in Ontario, the first Ford Institute Leadership Program project in the region.
2013 — Launched the Western Treasure Valley Emerging Leaders Summit, bringing together high school and college students across eight communities.
2014 — Began developing the Four Rivers Community Foundation, drafting new bylaws to enable formal foundation operations.
2015 — Launched the “Better Together” fundraising campaign to seed the community foundation. Began community foundation planning in earnest.
2016 — Hosted the inaugural Diversity Conference and La Conferencia de Diversidad at Four Rivers Cultural Center, centering equity and inclusion in rural healthcare conversations.
2019 — Completed initial endowment fundraising for the Four Rivers Community Foundation.
2022 — Organized a countywide Community Conversation on Aging with AGE+, engaging 182 Malheur County residents across four sites. Hosted Run for the Hills, a half-marathon fundraiser benefiting the Foundation.
2024 — Hosted the Investment in Caregivers Conference (April) and the Eastern Oregon Health Equity Conference (September), both focused on safety, belonging, and rural health equity.
2025 — Hosted the fourth annual Four Rivers Healthy Community Conference, A healthy future begins today: thriving in an era of change, featuring 24 workshops and nationally recognized speakers.
Our Focus Areas
Education
Children who enter kindergarten are ready to learn. Youth graduate from high school. Adults obtain at least a basic education.
Livability
Safe housing, strong neighborhoods, food security, accessible healthcare, living wages, and financial stability for all residents.
Leadership
Entrepreneurship, emerging leaders, mentorship, and policy development that keeps the Treasure Valley moving forward.
Health
Support for chronic disease management, reduced health disparities, and positive mental health strategies across the lifespan.
