Nathaniel Sean Stringer Memorial Scholarship
Sean grew up in Nyssa and Ontario, where he wrestled, played soccer, and trained in KaJuKenBo karate, and later found joy snowboarding and water skiing in McCall. After working in restaurants, the family sheep and cattle business, and masonry, he found his calling as the Malheur County Health Department’s Health Promotion Supervisor — a job he loved, in which he helped, and by many accounts saved, the lives of people in his community. He is remembered by his wife Sarah, his children Mazy, Analise, and Keagan, stepson Camden, and the many family and friends who loved him.
The Nathaniel Sean Stringer Memorial Scholarship supports people in our community who are building new futures through education. It is a scholarship for those who know what it means to start over.
Four Rivers Healthy Community administers this scholarship through the Matthew W. Stringer Fund, managed by the Oregon Community Foundation.
Who Can Apply
This scholarship is open to people of all ages in recovery from addiction who are pursuing education at:
- Community colleges
- Universities
- Certificate programs
- Professional development and continuing education courses
There is no age restriction. Whether you are 19 or 59, if you are in recovery and working toward an educational goal, this scholarship is for you.

Nathaniel is also remembered through A Healing Space, a memorial project funding a tree and bench in his honor.
